Over the last 20 years, we have developed and continuously refined the process of teaching all this material to a high art. Our focus is on you becoming a specialist in managing and resolving significant pain, posture, movement and dysfunction issues for which many people have not found relief.
The North Carolina School of Advanced Bodywork and the Florida School of Advanced Bodywork, reflect our years of education, practice and instruction in clinical massage therapy and structural bodywork.
It is a product of our belief that students are entitled to a superior education and individualized training so they may uphold the professional standards that they continually pursue.
The premise of our program is clinical in nature and the school’s curriculum expresses our philosophy and interpretations of the neuromuscular, myofascial, and musculoskeletal systems and their relation to the body’s structure and function.
Rather than attempt to encompass a wide range of massage modalities, NCSAB and FLSAB focus more on specific aspects we believe to be particularly relevant, such as the proper evaluation and treatment of soft tissue pain and musculoskeletal dysfunction.
Clinical / Medical Massage Therapy
& Myo-Structural Bodywork
Clinical / medical massage therapy and myo- structural bodywork are two different yet related therapy disciplines.
Clinical / Medical Massage Therapy involves the ability to understand and effectively identify and manipulate the soft tissues of the body for the purpose of reducing chronic, excess muscle tensions and stresses contributing to the onset of many and varied pains and dysfunction. It offers an in-depth look at the various causes (etiology), symptoms and conditions of muscle tension and the principles to reverse that tension.
Myo- Structural* Bodywork scientifically tracks down the aches, pains, and dysfunctions that are not sufficiently responsive to the usual localized treatment (at the location of symptoms) of neuromuscular and myofascial structures.
* Myo = muscle, fascia & tendon working as integrated units
* Structural = muscle, fascia, joint & bone structures working together to produce posture & movement
Resolving Your Client’s Chronic,
Excess Muscle Tension & Stress
The concept of Chronic, Excess Muscle & Nerve Tension & Stress — or C.E.M.&.N.T. for short —was developed and originally taught by David Scott Lynn, as were many of the principles we utilize at our schools. I, Kyle Wright, brought these concepts into my schools, and have developed our comprehensive teaching system around these ideas and techniques.
This unique approach to skillful resolution of chronic muscle tension and the problems it causes is the primary skill you’ll be developing here at NCSAB or FLSAB. This skill — and the related knowledge — is what will set you apart from many, if not most, of the therapists practicing today.
Our curriculum contains pertinent information structured in an easy-to-follow format to assist in facilitating the student’s learning of the muscles, origins, insertions, functions, pain referral patterns associated with each muscle, clinical notes for discussion and reference, patient positioning, and treatment strategies.
